DfE backtracks on Chinese bi-lingual free school

From This is Local London: The Marco Polo Academy had been approved by the Department for Education (DfE) in January but the decision has been backtracked because the bilingual Chinese and English school was “not inclusive enough” and the campaign group behind it were “not ready” to run a school.

Land - given to Barnet Borough Council in 1985 on the understanding it would be used for sports - was due to be sold to the Marco Polo Academy and housing developer Taylor Wimpey... the deal with the developer is now in doubt as the school's play area acted as a loophole.

The school had been due to open in Burnt Oak in September 2014.
