Richard Garner, the Independent's education editor: "I must confess that at the time of the controversy I felt that the Government was being a bit heavy-handed because of the school's 2012 results. However, it would now be hard to deny that the children are getting a better standard of education. And that's the main thing.
"A few teachers left after the handover – some because they did not feel that they could live up to the new regime's insistence that every lesson should be good or outstanding, others out of principle that they would prefer to work for a local authority-maintained school than an academy. Almost all the parents stayed loyal to the school, though."

Independent: Education Select Committee report criticises converter academies as sponsors

The Independent said: the "report says: “During this inquiry, we received overwhelming evidence that converter academies are not living up to this expectation and pulling their weight when it comes to other schools. “One submission suggested that many only ‘paid lip service to this requirement’ and another argued that converter academies were ‘working in isolation’.”

This weekend the Independent on Sunday reported that the number of teachers leaving work before they reach the official retirement agehad hit a record high of 8,880 in 2010/11, as "thousands of staff are driven out by plummeting morale and stiffer pension rules".
