Bridging fund incentive for MAT to take on school with poor finances

In September the Bradford Telegraph reported 'Many of the academy chains who were approached to run a troubled Bradford school (Belle Vue Boys) were immediately put off when they saw its finances...' This week the paper reported: 'Bradford Council has been working on a proposal which would see a "bridging fund"...

... to support the conversion of the school to an academy under the sponsorship of Beckfoot Academy Trust... This is expected to be between £2,010,263 and £3,044,697 depending on the upper and lower estimates of how swiftly the school's intake will increase.'

Beckfoot Academy Trust is listed on DfE academy sponsor list as Beckfoot School, its 2013/14 accounts are for Beckfoot and Hazelbeck Trust. The Bradford Telegraph report said the schools deficit was due to falling pupil numbers and the council said it had been looking for a sponsor for two years.

How might this compare to the future of St Aldhelm's where the EFA is believed to be in negotiations with a new multi-academy trust: http://newschoolfinance.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/governors-vs-auditors-will-st-aldhelms.html  (Update Dec 13 2014: http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/11664195.St_Aldhelm___s_Academy_placed_in_special_measures_after_damning_Ofsted_inspection/?ref=twt)
