Cabot appoints new head from in-house reserve

An update on an original story from the Bristol Post which reported that Armando Di-Finizio, principal of Weston-super-Mare's Hans Price Academy - part of the Cabot Learning Federation - has left the school. He has been replaced by Tony Searle, more details below....

A new head has been appointed and Sir David Carter, chief executive of Cabot Learning Federation provided these details: 'Tony Searle has been a senior leader in the CLF since September 2007 and has since then worked at Bristol Brunel Academy, John Cabot Academy and Bristol Metropolitan Academy as an Assistant Principal. He was appointed to be the Principal Designate of the Compass Free School in London and opened the school in September 2013 but then returned to Bristol.

'We re-employed him immediately back at Bristol Met as his impact on GCSE outcomes has been significant across the federation. He has also been one of a group of senior leaders I have been developing over the past five years who could move into Principal posts should they become available. I have always believed that we need to grow our own and not be solely reliant on advertising a job in the national press.

'When the vacancy came up at Hans Price Tony was one of four candidates interviewed and deservedly was appointed on the strength of his track record and how well he did at interview. Because he was already an employee, he was able to start immediately which meant that Hans Price did not have a single school day without a Principal.'

The paper did not say where Mr Di-Finizio was going to but said that he will be supporting schools embarking on new building programmes. He oversaw the £14m redevelopment of Hans Price and the developer working on the site was Willmott Dixon.
