Praised academy hopeful falls back into special measures

From the Stoke Sentinel: http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/Birches-Head-Academy-plunges-special-measures/story-20524253-detail/story.html

Birches Head Academy (not yet an academy) was 'supposed to become an academy in August last year, using the route normally targeted at good or outstanding schools. But the plans were put on hold due to concerns over standards.'

The paper said: 'The Ofsted report, which has not yet been published, is expected to strongly criticise the overall quality of teaching, pupils' progress and management.'

It also said the school had been praised by Michael Gove eight months ago adding... 'Birches Head had previously been removed from special measures in 2006'.

Headteacher: Karen Healey
